Market quotations of financial securities in Ukraine will be set a bit differently

Last week the National Securities and Stock Market Commission (NSSMC) of Ukraine published its draft order for calculation of financial securities’ quotations. This document has fundamental significance for market participants because it sets a new formula for calculation of financial securities’ market quotations to be used by traders if they don’t want to pay the excise duty.

Moscow Stock Exchange’s IPO scheduled for February 15

The Moscow Stock Exchange will hold its initial public offering on 15 February 2013. Today (4/02/2013) it is commencing its “roadshow”. The expected offering price threshold is set as 55-63 roubles/share. Planned volume of funds to be raised is $500 million. Capitalization of the Moscow Stock Exchange is estimated at above 4.4 billion dollars.

The IFRS Foundation has today issued a Call for Candidates, inviting nominations for membership of the Accounting Standards Advisory Forum (ASAF). The Call for Candidates sets out the membership criteria and other factors that the IFRS Foundation will take into account in selecting the members of the forum, together with proposed Terms of Reference and a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

IVSC consults on improvements to valuation standards and the valuation of financial liabilities

The International Valuations Standards Council (IVSC) has released two due process documents: an exposure draft of numerous proposed amendments to International Valuation Standards (IVS), and a discussion paper on the valuation of financial liabilities.

No more bank secrecy in Switzerland

Today new legislation on international support in taxation-related issues is coming into effect in Switzerland, which means that foreign tax services will be able to send their requests, asking for information on bank accounts of their citizens, while Switzerland can no longer deny provision of such information.

New Central Bank’s chief will watch over “long” money

The Central Bank of the Russian Federation will soon acquire a new chief with the current chairman Sergei Ignatiev stepping down in June. It is a subject to heavy speculations at the moment who will be made his successor. Meanwhile, Russian government is getting more and more certain on future responsibilities of the new financial “megaregulator” which, as it was finally decided last year, will be formed at the base of the Central Bank. For example, it is already known that the new structure will control non-government pension funds, while the latter are expected to become one of the main sources of “long” money to the economy.

IFAC SMP Poll highlights pervading economic uncertainty, cautious optimism, and key issues facing accounting profession in 2013

The latest IFAC SMP Quick Poll, conducted in late 2012, showed that the smallest accounting practices and their clients are not immune to macroeconomic instability. With the continuing sovereign debt crisis, a double-dip recession in the Eurozone, and rising inflation in some regions, economic uncertainty pervaded many of the responses to the poll of small- and medium-sized accounting practitioners (SMPs). Despite these concerns, SMPs remain cautiously optimistic, showing their resilience and perseverance during challenging times.
