Accounting Council to issue ED on FRS 102 defined benefits
The Accounting Council, replacement body for the Accounting Standards Board (ASB), has told the Financial Reporting Council that it plans to issue a limited scope Exposure Draft on defined benefit multi-employer pension plans (excludes group pension plans)’. If approved by the FRC, the draft will be issued as part of its ongoing review of the plans for the new FRS 100-102 accounting standards to replace UK GAAP, due for publication by year end 2012.
IIRC’s integrated reporting draft to launch in Spring
It expects to grant approval to version one of the framework together with a consultative draft of long-term governance arrangements by Q4 of 2013.

Minfin mulls the “megaregulator” option for the market
The Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation wants the “megaregulator” (which is to be created at the base of either the Central Bank or the Federal Financial Market Service) to start functioning in one year. Market participants think that both of the current regulators are watching over quite different segments, so they can hardly be merged into a single structure. It is possible, however, that the FFMS will be reorganized into an agency subordinated to the Bank of Russia.
Under new accounting standard, CFOs could change hedging strategies
A new international financial reporting standard (IFRS) on hedge accounting could prompt finance chiefs to change their companies’ hedging strategies under a more accommodating, principles-based regime that requires less testing.
The future for public sector accounting standards
Ken Warren, a board member of the International Public Sector Accounting Standards Board (IPSASB) and the New Zealand External Reporting Board (XRB), has written an article providing some insights into the future direction of International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS).
