Tax Ministry Trains Accountants in International Standards

The Training and Methodological Center of the Russian Tax Ministry (TMC), assisted by experts from VDEL Ltd and funded by several international organizations, is providing international standards based training for Ministry staff. The program is called «Financial reporting and accounting in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles GAAP using SMART computer training programs».The computerized program includes training on accounting and financial reporting structure and assessment of the financial position of enterprises. The focus is on developing a chart of accounts based on international standards, processing accounting data, and preparing financial statements. In addition to the accounting course, there are courses on audit principles and techniques and methods and principles of tax control.

TMC director believes it is necessary to demonstrate the most advanced financial accounting software and provide students with practical skills in standard systems and has said, «the most important task is to train Russian experts in International Accounting Standards.» TMC and VDEL Ltd have also launched a Moscow City Government-funded project, «Professional Development of Accountants of Small – and Medium-Sized Enterprises,» that will result in the training of 450 persons under an 80-hour program.

In addition to training courses, TMC publishes training manuals, including books on financial statement analysis, converting financial statements, and assessing financial position using international standards.
