This publication contains current text of Standards, Interpretations, and Implementation Guidance on the accounting for financial instruments as of 15 July 2001. It includes:

  • IAS 32, Financial Instruments: Disclosure and Presentation,

These documents collectively establish principles for recognising, measuring, presenting, and disclosing information about financial instruments in the financial statements of all enterprises in accordance with international standards and discuss the application of those principles.

The IASB staff has prepared this document to facilitate access to existing requirements and guidance on the accounting for financial instruments, in particular the IAS 39 Implementation Guidance, which was not previously available in the printed format, by bringing them together in a single volume, providing cross-references to implementation guidance questions and answers in foot notes to individual paragraphs in IAS 39, and adding index.

IAS EXPLAINED published by IASB and WILEY Publishing

With increasing globalisation and investment there is increasing pressure to harmonise accounting standards throughout the world so that effective comparisons between companies can be made. Uniformity in financial reporting on a global basis has many advantages: as well as reducing the costs of preparing financial statements for multinational companies, it will also allow investment analysts, investors and other users of company accounts to more accurately access business results around the world.

The International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) is at the forefront of the push towards harmonisation of accounting standards and this book ( in English only) provides timely guidance on its work. It will be essential reading for all those who need to understand IAS and their impact in today’s global economy.

The publication ISBN is 0-471-72037-2.
